Best perfumes for mature women over 50

Women's body chemistry and personal style change as they get older. Perfumes that formerly seemed bright and fresh may now feel too flowery, musky, or sugary. But there are many great perfumes available that are designed especially for women over fifty.

Mature ladies can choose lighter, crisper scents over strong orientals when choosing their perfect perfume. While flowers are still an option, I prefer soft white roses or tuberose to heavy jasmine or tuberose. Here are some great perfume categories and scents to check out.

Citrus and Green Scents

Women tend to prefer crisp citrus and green scents over sweet ones as they get older. These scents boost us because of their brightness and freshness. Citrus fragrances are best reserved for the daytime because they don't last as long on aged skin. Good citrus possibilities are Aurelien Guichard's Light Blue and Clarins' Eau Dynamisante, which have a strong grapefruit flavor. Fresh flowers and green notes abound in green perfumes like Estee Lauder Pleasures.

White Florals

For elderly ladies, heavier white flowers may be too much, but lighter flowers like tuberose or gardenia look great. Try the gardenias from Tory Burch, Jo Malone, and Flora Napa Valley. On skin that is more mature, the creamy tuberose in Serge Lutens’ Tubereuse also has a sophisticated, exquisite scent. When combined with sharper notes like citrus, exotic blooms become more wearable and young for ladies who still enjoy them.

Oceanic and Ozone Scents

Ocean or ozone fragrances, which are refreshing and windy, combine to produce easily energizing perfumes. They evoke thoughts of wide-open blue sky and beaches. This feeling is encapsulated in Fragonard Embruns d'Emotions and Estee Lauder Pleasures, especially when combined with green notes. Ozonic by Miller Harris creates a clean, oceanic sensation by combining ozone, pine, ginger, and bergamot.

Woodsy Notes

Stronger musks may be too heavy for older skin types, but dry woodsy tones are still seductive and have a fresh scent. A sophisticated, long-lasting fragrance is produced by the crisp cedarwood in Boy Chanel and the dry wood in Yves Saint Laurent's Paris. Sandalwood is also used as the fundamental note in Chanel's Bois de Iles and Diptyque's Tam Dao, creating a refined but organic impression.

For warmth, Balenciaga's Spanish Moss collection also combines wood with vetiver, incense, and spices. With a hint of oud, Christian Dior's woody rose Oud Ispahan brings a floral design into a more contemporary realm.

Sheer White Musks

Transparent white musks smell extremely gentle and pure, in contrast to many other musks that seem heavy. For a seductive sensation, delicate musks are expertly combined with spices and amber in Frederic Malle's Musc Ravageur. The impression of warm, naked flesh is captured by clean skin. For a delicate, fresh aroma, sheer white musk is also used in Linda Pilkington's Pausia.

Mature ladies should generally choose fresher, lighter scents than what they could have worn in their youth. Instead of going for too sweet or strong oriental scents, go for white flowers, citrus notes, woods, and maritime accords. These days, every smart lady over fifty may choose the ideal characteristic smell among the plethora of possibilities available.
